“Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that progress has been made regarding an agreement for free transit through the Strait of Hormuz… but a final decision has not yet been reached,” the report states.
However, the chief U.S. diplomat expressed hope that such an agreement “will be concluded in the very near future.”
According to him, the United States, as part of broader negotiations with Tehran, is also participating in talks between Iran and Oman “on how to ensure the safe passage of more vessels through the strait.”
Rubio emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is currently open, and oil is moving through this critically important waterway. The Trump administration is currently focused on efforts to increase traffic along this route, although the ultimate goal of the U.S. remains to prevent the regime in Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“This is the closest agreement we are focused on (restoring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz – ed.). Iran’s denuclearization is the ultimate agreement,” stated the U.S. Secretary of State.
Al Jazeera, in turn, reports that positive signals are also coming from Tehran regarding the negotiations with Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
“According to what we are hearing from diplomatic sources here in Tehran, there are positive signals coming from Iran. But we must remember that we are dealing with a fragile and unstable situation,” the report states.
It notes that the previous day, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran said on state television that negotiations are continuing successfully, and the parties are currently defining safe routes and entry and exit paths for vessels to reopen the strait.

“We have heard various parties say that they are on the verge of reaching an agreement, but at a certain point, another round of confrontation occurred. Diplomatic sources also speak of destructive actors. However, there are some positive signs, including talk of a possible agreement by the end of Wednesday (August 5 – ed.),” Al Jazeera observes.
As Ukrinform reported, U.S. military personnel, as part of the operation to unblock navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, have facilitated the passage of over one thousand vessels through this waterway in the last three months.
