U.S. President Donald Trump announced that during the 60-day ceasefire with Iran in the Strait of Hormuz region, no passage fees for vessels would be levied.

The American leader shared this information on his social media platform, Truth Social.

According to Trump, for the two-month duration of the truce in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz area, no financial charges for passage would be in effect.

“After this 60-day period is over, there will be no fees either, unless they are imposed by the United States of America for its benefit,” stated the U.S. President.

Trump also emphasized that such a scenario is possible if a corresponding agreement is not finalized. In that case, he suggested, the U.S. might introduce its own charges as compensation for “services rendered as a guardian angel to the Middle Eastern countries,” referring to America’s role in ensuring regional security.

The statement came amidst a tense situation surrounding Iran and international concerns about the potential blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil exports passes.

Threat of Disruption to Peace Agreements

Recently, the United States and Iran officially announced the achievement of a peace agreement, which was planned for signing on June 19 in Geneva, with Pakistan mediating. Immediately following these successful diplomatic steps, Donald Trump announced the immediate lifting of the American blockade and the reopening of transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

For their part, G7 leaders publicly expressed their readiness to support Washington’s plan for rapid demining and the restoration of safe navigation in this region. However, European allies stressed the necessity of obtaining reliable long-term guarantees from Tehran before dispatching their warships there.

Despite loud declarations of a historic reconciliation between the U.S. and Iran, the Israeli leadership refused to comply with these decisions, emphasizing their status as an independent state. Israeli officials made it clear that the American agreement was not binding for them and would not halt their military operations.

International experts noted that normalizing trade and returning to pre-war transport volumes would, in any case, require at least several weeks of coordinated effort. Simultaneously, this Middle Eastern agreement would have allowed the Trump administration to focus more on military aid and negotiation processes concerning Ukraine.

As a reminder, on June 18, the United States of America lifted restrictions on maritime traffic to Iranian ports and coastal areas. This decision was made under the directive of U.S. President Donald Trump.
