Following the calendar reform of 2023, the celebration date has shifted by 13 days and is now as close as possible to the summer solstice period – the shortest night of the year, when nature, according to folk beliefs, is at the peak of its strength.
Until recently, Ukrainians traditionally celebrated Kupala Night before July 7. However, the celebration is now returning to its astronomical rhythm – the time when the sun is considered strongest, and fire, water, and herbs acquire special symbolic and “purifying” energy.
