Russian mercenaries from the Ministry of Defense’s “African Corps,” who are supporting government forces in Mali, were compelled to abandon their base in the city of Kidal, having sustained casualties in clashes with insurgents.
This development has been reported by the French television channel France24.
Prior to this, Russian military personnel were issued an ultimatum to hand over the base to the insurgents.
“An agreement has been reached that permits the Malian army and its allies from the African Corps (Russia) to vacate Camp No. 2, where they had been stationed since yesterday,” stated a representative of a Tuareg rebel group to AFP.
Several Russian pro-war channels have reported on the withdrawal of personnel and equipment belonging to the Russian Ministry of Defense’s “African Corps” (AC).
The “African Corps” social media page clarifies that the Russians have commenced a troop withdrawal, and the Malian military contingent is surrendering.
Telegram channels associated with the “African Corps” and the Wagner PMC have released footage showing a convoy of Russian military hardware moving under celebratory shouts from insurgents.
Subsequently, a Telegram channel linked to the Wagner PMC reported that the Malian armed forces and Russian mercenaries had departed Kidal, also taking the bodies of deceased Russians with them.
