Polluted air from fires at the oil depot in Tuapse is spreading along the Russian Black Sea coast, where Volodymyr Putin’s residences are located. Sulfur and nitrogen oxides, after interacting with moist air masses, precipitate as acid rain.

This was reported by ecologist Georgiy Kavanasyan in a comment to the publication “Agentstvo”.

According to him, the smog from the fires has already reached Sochi and Goryachy Klyuch, and the zone of smoke may extend to Krasnodar.

Residents of Sochi report that it rained in the city in the morning. It is likely that the precipitation has already absorbed the combustion products of petroleum products.

It is in Sochi that one of the most famous residences of Russian President Volodymyr Putin, “Bocharov Ruchey,” is located. The complex includes about 40 hectares of parkland, a private beach, swimming pools, a tennis court, and a specialized judo hall. Previously, the head of the Kremlin often visited here in spring and autumn.

Nearby, on Cape Idokopas near Gelendzhik, is also the so-called “Putin’s Palace.” This large-scale complex with an area of 17.7 thousand square meters was built specifically for the Russian president, although this is officially denied.

The toxic cloud continues to spread, and it is not excluded that acid rain will also drench this territory.

On Tuesday, April 21, the smoke had already stretched for 300 kilometers and reached Armavir and the outskirts of Stavropol. Polluted air is also being detected in other areas of the Black Sea coast.

Another ecologist, who commented on the situation to “Agentstvo” on condition of anonymity, warned that the pollution would have a long-term negative impact on the territories through which the smog passes, particularly on the health of local residents.

“A large amount of combustion products, including nitrogen and sulfur oxides, are released into the air. During the saturation of water vapor in the atmosphere, they transform into nitric, sulfuric, or sulfurous acids and precipitate with the rain,” he explained.

According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire at the Tuapse Sea Terminal, which started on April 20 as a result of drone strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has not yet been extinguished.

We remind you that after repeated attacks on the Tuapse refinery in Russia, the city was covered in oily rain, and a giant oil slick appeared in the Black Sea.
